Millersville Elementary School

Throughout the years Millersville Elementary School has attempted to meet the needs of the students it serves. The faculty, administration, and staff strive to provide goals based on individual needs, incorporating state and federal guidelines, school board policies, and a changing social structure. In keeping with past traditions, the school will continue to create a positive environment in which quality instruction is provided.

Our school's hours are from 7:15 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.  Students may arrive as early as 6:30 a.m. to eat breakfast in our cafeteria. Students are dismissed to their classrooms at 7:05 a.m. and the tardy bell rings at 7:15 a.m

A Little History...

Millersville Elementary School originally met in a log building by Slater's Creek adjacent to Slater's Methodist Church. In 1878, the log structure was replaced by a large, one-room building. Later, the school was upgraded by adding another room, and two teachers we employed. Students selected their own subjects.

In 1914, land was purchased on the east side of Highway 31 W and Slater's Creek at 1181 Louisville Highway. This building contained three classrooms, a cloakroom, and an upstairs room that was also used as a lodge hall. In 1919, V.G. Hawkins was named the first principal. Mr. Hawkins later served as the school system's superintendent. In 1944, this frame building was replaced by a brick structure. Additions were made to accomodate as the school's population increased.

The school was moved to a newly constructed building in 1992 at 1248 Louisville Highway. It consisted of twelve classrooms and two multi-purpose rooms. Four additional classrooms were added in 1996. In 2004 another wing adjoined another four classrooms.
